‘Rough Guide to Commissioining for DOM UK members’

In response to the DOM UK survey carried out in the autumn, the Committee have written ‘A Rough Guide to Commissioining for DOM UK Members’.  See the DOM UK website (Guide) to view the document.  The guide was written quickly in order to get something out to the membership as rapidly as possible, therefore is not a comprehensive guide.  It can be updated and developed in time if members feel this would be useful.  If you have any feedback on this resource, including any gaps / ommissions or comments, please contact Kate Lees, Best Practice Development Officer on katelees1@hotmail.co.uk

This module is now available to all healthcare professionals working in adult weight management services.

This year-long module, which will cost £700 (non-residential), includes four contact days at The University of Nottingham, and is worth 20 credits at the MSc level. The University is accredited as part of the BDA MSc in Advanced Dietetic Practice.

Registration is open until mid-January 2010; informal enquiries may be addressed to Hilda Mulrooney, Training Officer domUK (hildamulrooney@yahoo.co.uk)

The Dietetic Intervention

Developed by Clare Grace for DOM UK.  The purpose of this document is to consider how to relate the NICE and other obesity related recommendations to dietetic weight management interventions for adults in the one to one setting. In so doing it develops a suggested framework for the weight management consultation that is grounded in the evidence while proposing possible practical solutions in those under-researched areas where specific recommendations are as yet unavailable. It draws on the experiences of dietetic departments that have redesigned their services as a way of illustrating the processes used and the possible outcomes that can be achieved in practice. Importantly it also identifies areas of dietetic practice requiring further research and highlights the importance of auditing dietetic weight management services to enhance our understanding of outcomes achieved and developments required.

Working with the Media: Obesity FAQs (2006)

After consultation with the BDA PR Committee, DOM UK committee members have pulled together evidence-based replies to commonly asked questions about obesity and its management. They serve as a useful resource when you have a short amount of time to reply to a media request, or in your day to day work.

They can be viewed in the Members’ area of the BDA website - www.bda.uk.com   Once in the Members’ area, go to Groups, then Dietitians in Obesity Management UK. It can also be found in the PR Committee’s web pages (also in the Members’ area).
