Forthcoming meetings and training

3 day childood obesity training course

We will be running 3 day childhood obesity training course for a second time in 2009, again held in Knuston Hall, East Northamptonshire on Monday 16th – Wednesday 18th November 2009. We are currently incorporating improvements to the course based on last year’s evaluations; however the topics and many of the speakers will remain the same. Fees are expected to be £475 for DOM UK and Paediatric Group members and £495 for non-members. This includes 2 nights accommodation and all food, while Sunday night bed and breakfast is available for a further charge.
This course proved to be very popular last year and as there are limited numbers we would highly recommend booking a place early. For further details and a booking form please contact Denise Whatmore via email at - denise.whatmore@nhs.net
Notes and feedback from meetings

DOM UK 3 day childhood obesity training October 2008

In October 2008 DOM UK and the BDA’s Paediatric Group helped dietitians to get their act together by holding a successful comprehensive training course on childhood obesity. This was the first such training course on childhood obesity for dietitians in the UK. The development and delivery of such a course for dietitians had been the initial objective of Dom UK’s Childhood Obesity sub-group when it formed in the summer of 2006.  The Paediatric Group then came on board to help with the development and delivery of the course.
In late October 27 dietitians from many different posts across the UK came together at Knuston Hall, East Northamptonshire to undertake the course over three days. The venue was stunning, the food was fantastic and the lectures were all of a very high standard. Topics covered included assessment, the evidence base, group work, using behavioural change techniques, public health policy, working with families, parenting issues, physical activity for children and child protection issues.
All the speakers had put a lot of hard work into producing useful, practical sessions and the whole course was very well received by those who attended.
‘by far and away the best training I have done in a very long time!’
‘Thanks again for such an inspiring course’
‘Thanks again for organising and running such a great course’
