I’m therefore writing to invite you to a meeting to develop the new group on Friday 11th September, 10am-2pm, at the BDA Offices in Birmingham.

The aim of the meeting is to determine the role of the group, it’s scope, focus and Terms of Reference. We will also explore how the group will function in future; e.g. through meetings, or as a virtual group. Your ideas will be invaluable to help shape the group and ensure it meets the needs of members.

If you would like to attend the meeting, please confirm your attendance to katelees1@hotmail.co.uk by Friday 4th September.

Join the DOM UK list serv - and become part of a great networking community

What is a ‘list serv’?

A list serv is similar to a discussion forum except there is no need to visit a website to be updated on the latest discussion topics. Once you have joined and given your email address you will automatically receive all the messages sent back and forth via your email. You can post a message to all group members by sending an email to a single email address.

Why have a list serv?

It is an excellent networking opportunity for sharing ideas around obesity management issues for dietitians.

How do I join?

Simply send an email to: domuk-subscribe@yahoogroups.co.uk The list serv is open to all registered dietitians and BDA members.

What if I don’t have email?

Even if you do not have email at home or work, many offices have internet access and you can set up a private email address (check your internet use policy regarding personal use). Many sites offer free email, eg. www.hotmail.com or www.yahoo.com

Simply visit the site and follow the instructions for setting up your own personal email address. If you have difficulty, ask your IT dept for help and advice. Some workplace IT servers block applications to listserves. This can often be overcome by the listserve coordinator emailing you to invite you to join the listserve. Please email the DOM UK administrator on info@domuk.org to request this.

DOM UK’s resources are available to order by dietitians

ANNOUNCMENT - DOM UK Resources March 2008

DOM UK Resources have Merged with SNDRi Please note Changes in ordering of resources
In June 2007 an announcement was made at the BDA conference that SNDRi and BDA will be merging in terms of developing, producing and distributing dietetic resources and sheets.

This was stimulated by the BDA membership survey, BDA strategic plan and the SNDRi review recommendations and is also supported by the Scottish Government and BDA Council. We see this as a major step forward in securing the future, development and provision of quality nutrition and dietetic resources and it will have the following mutual benefits:

• Harness expertise knowledge and experience

• Economies of scale: using a central production and publication house, especially in terms of quality and cost.

• Work together to improve the patient / public quality of life.

• Benefit from the wealth of experience in the production of nutrition and diet leaflets

• SNDRi are skilled in the management of the printing and publication

• Up to date on developments, accrediting information through the Department of Health Schemes

• Developing a research programme to evaluate the impact of resources on a patient’s quality of life.

• Access to information on the best way and format to communicate with different individuals

• Access to a database of food photography.

The working agreement will have the following principles:

• T o become a self-sustaining service

• To develop “gold standard resources” to use across the profession

• To take responsibility for resources in terms of Ownership (physical and IP), management and marketing.

• Financial models for return of income to DOM UK.
From 1 April, stock will be transferred from Cambertown to SNDRi. Details are available at www.caledonian.ac.uk/sndri

About DOM UK resources

The vast majority of these resources have been developed for use by dietitians in one-to-one consultations with adults. They have not been designed for use with children or adolescents. The resources are currently being evaluated. Therefore, these are the ‘living pilot’ edition.

There are 12 patient education resources, a weight management assessment form, 2 user guides, a patient assessment form and an A5 folder. Use the menu opposite to view sample copies and download an order form.

Paula Hunt was commissioned by DOM UK to produce the resources, in consultation with the resource steering group whose members are Sara Harrison, Anne Lyons, Marney Quinn, Dympna Pearson and Lyndel Costain. We do hope you find them helpful and welcome any feedback.
